The playing season at Nunholm concluded with a successful Masters Cricket tournament on Sunday.

That involved three teams from Dumfries and Galloway, Mearns and Stenhousemuir, all with a mix of experience and experience. Undefeated in their two matches, Mearns claimed the tournament trophy in an over-age-group approach the club will continue at Nunholm as one part of the club's aim to encourage cricket participation for all.

In the first game against Mearns, Mat was unable to find a partner for a run scoring partnership and batted through with 25 not out. The batting line up struggled with sharp opening bowlers and then the slowest bowling of the season which was effective on a two paced pitch (with one end damp and one end not!). Then two very capable batsmen had Mearns comfortable and even managed to finish with a perfect straight six towards the car park.

Mearns were too good for a more socially oriented Stenhousemuir side in another 18-over encounter in the second game (124-3 played 56-9).

The D&G Masters batted first in the third and final game and had a more productive batting effort with 130 for 3 thanks to openers Andy (41 retired) and Pat (40 retired) aided by 18 from Mark and James who avoiding two 'goldens' thanks to a drop on the boundary for a 6 instead.

Then Stenhousmuir had reached 40 off 10 overs with one wicket to Stuart when a heavy cloudburst left the players drenched as they ran from the field to end the match in a downpour draw.

Thank you to the 14 man 'squad' that provided two teams from the 11am start to the match that finished in the evening. And well done to James for persisting after arranging fixtures all season to finally get a game with the last day of the summer season.

The visiting teams were happy with the day at the club and we hope they will make another visit next season for more Masters Cricket at Nunholm.
