2s claim Championship Title
Congratulations to the 2s, and to the twenty five players who featured in a game this season, for finishing top of their league, Western Championship 2, but unfortunately without getting to play their final game at home. Bottom side Renfrew 3 conceded the game late Friday afternoon for the 2nds to be out of reach of second side Hillhead 2. Hillead actually lost their final game which was scheduled on Sunday. So the side would still have won with a final match cancellation or a single bonus point.
Western Premiership 2 League winners, the 1s, enjoyed a mini-bus outing to Langside but registered their second defeat to finish with 13 wins and 2 losses (as did the 2s) and to bring back a trophy to a noisy club bar.
Read the weekend report HERE.
D&G Masters
Mearns and Stenhousemuir were the visitors for an 'over-age' triangular tournment with two games for the 'D&G Masters', and for the other two sides, with one loss and 1 draw (finished by rain). The day's report is HERE.
Well done to James who has persisted all season with a new club initiative to get a Masters side playing and finally succeeded, using a different format, on the last playing day of the season on Sunday.
Women's Cricket
Congratulations to Niamh who is the Watsonian/Dumfries Women batter of the season with an average of over fifty to finish 6th amongst the Women's Premier League run scorers (154 runs @51.33). A nod also to Orla who was 2nd in the league batting averages with an average of 84 from the three matches that she was able to play. The Watsonians/Dumfries team finished second in the league with 4 wins and 1 loss to the winners Carlton.
The Scotland Women's squad for their first ever T20 World Cup in October in the UAE was announced this week. Two players who have played for our Dumfries women's side have been selected - Lorna Jack-Brown and Hannah Rainey. and Sue travels as Tour Manager. We wish Lorna and Hannah well, along with the rest of the team, as they take on Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa and England in Group B.
Final evening junior sessions next week
Next week sees the final evening junior sessions of the summer on Monday and Wednesday. Thank you to our coaches and helpers who have been on the go since the start of April! But watch out on here for upcoming details of our indoor junior programmes over the winter.
Ground work
Blink and the ground changes. The Ashleigh Building Ground Crew have been busy and the square has already undergone preparations for next summer, hence its change of appearance. The dome covers are tucked away for the winter too. #sad
WDCU Select XI
Good luck to Hobbo who has been picked for a WDCU Select XI versus an ESCA Select at Carlton CC on Sunday.
Dumfries Alumni
Well done to Hyder who we hear has received an award in his first year at his new cricket club RHC in Edinburgh.
Congratulations also to past player Adam Lawrie, also at RHC, who is the RHC Club Person of the Year.
And good luck to Adam on his way to Pakistan for a winter of more cricket and we want to hear of some more hundreds from him.
